Sentinel-GEO Seismic Station

Sentinel GEO is a cost-effective accelerograph plus velocigraph.

Small and light it integrates a triaxial 85dB MEMS accelerometer (self-noise < 18 µg/√Hz) plus a triaxial set of 4.5Hz geophones.

Sentinel GEO has a 24bit resolution with adjustable sample rate up to 500Sps per channel (synchronous sampling).

Miniseed data are stored in the internal memory (from 32Gb up to 256Gb) with a ring-buffer structure.

GNSS receiver is integrated and so are the WiFi and the HSPA modem (available on request).

Sentinel GEO implements sophisticated trigger criteria that distinguishes false events from true seismic events.

An internal 18650 Li-Ion battery prevents the switch-off in case of mains loss for at least 5 hours.

Sentinel GEO has a seedlink server.

Sentinel GEO with 1 second and 2 seconds velocity sensor (geophone electronically extended) is upcoming.

Local and Regional Seismic Monitoring

The enhaced dynamic and the sensors tuning make the Sentinel GEO ideal for the local or regional seismicity monitoring.


Structural Health Monitoring

 

This is one of the main application of Sentinel GEO, the structural health monitoring.

For the tall buildings, where the oscillation of the structure hevily excites the system, Sentinel GEO works great even if its dynamic cannot compete with that of Triton, that’s because the amplitude of physical signals is considerable.

In a scenario like this, the only high dynamic (and thus more expensive) accelerograph is placed on the ground floor, where the oscillations of the structure are negligible.

Sentinel GEO and Triton can be interfaced and controlled with our software for Structural Health Monitoring,  Asclepius.

A real-time situation of the building and a post-earthquake evaluation of the structure damage can be locally visualized or trasmitted remotely.


Early Warning System

 

Earthquake early warning is the rapid detection of erthquakes and the notification of people to shaking.

Sentinel GEO can detect the non-damaging P-waves and transmit the information about shaking to an alarm center or directly to predefined users before the most damaging S-waves arrive.


Induced Seismicity

Induced Seismicity refers to low magnitude earthquakes caused by the human activity that alters the stresses and strains on the Earth’s crust.

Sentinel GEO is suitable for this kind of surveys.
